A repair is performed with the least possible damage or alteration, but oftentimes requires completely new components to be purchased or fabricated. The idea is to return the piece to a wearable condition. All repairs vary in turn-around time and never cost more than the quoted price. If you cannot make it into the gallery for a personal evaluation of the repair at hand, you can email photographs and a description of what needs to be done. Kevin can let you know if the repair can be accepted, but keep in mind that no actual quotes can be made until the piece is seen in person. When sending in earrings for repair, please remember to send the unbroken earring along as well, so we can refinish both pieces to look like new!
Restoration is the process of returning a piece to the original state of intention by the manufacturer or designer. This process can require research, sourcing of outdated materials, and perhaps contracted services from other specialists. Restoration quotes can be given for pieces after they have been inspected and studied for at least three business days.
Conservation is simply cleaning the piece without harming the original finish or surfaces. Certain conservation efforts can only be taken so far as to cross the line into restoration.
Aside from jewelry, Duris Studios will consider the repair, restoration, and conservation of certain other objects such as flatware, hollowware, candlesticks, boxes, sculpture, and Early American clocks. Flatware and hollowware cleaning services are available, but may require up to four weeks for delivery following October 1st.
All jewelry designed and manufactured by Duris Studios or Bluette will be cleaned anytime at no charge. You only pay for shipping.
